| What
services do you offer? |
I can provide
any of the following services:
Custom music composition from short loops to full
length feature film scores.
Licensing of pre-written tracks in a wide range
of styles including electronica, orchestral, ambient,
experimental, dance, rock etc. The tracks on the site
are not my complete library, just a representative sample
of styles - I have many other tracks offline that may
be suitable if you're looking for something pre-written.
Sound effects/sound design (e.g. atmospheric audio
beds, underscore and backing for dramatic effect eg horror,
ambient, suspense etc).
Audio clean-up (e.g. hum/noise removal from your
existing audio files).
Audio file transfer (e.g. conversion from CD audio
to internet ready files in a range of formats - mp3, wma,
Ogg etc.)

| What
style of music do you write? |
I've written
tracks for productions in styles such as ambient, orchestral,
trailer music, dance, rock/pop, downtempo electronica
and more. I do tend to specialise more in dramatic, tense
and suspenseful music but if you let me know what you're
looking for, I'll be honest and let you know if I can
do the job.

| How
much do you charge? |
If you're interested in using any of my pre-written
tracks in your project, it's a lot cheaper than you
might think. Details of my licensing fees can be found
here.
For custom music for your project, due to the range
of financial budgets I am approached with, I cannot
provide an off-the-shelf quote here. I have worked on
low budget projects for (serious) student filmmakers
through to Hollywood based production companies providing
broadcast-ready productions.
Unfortunately, I do not take on unpaid jobs so
please don't ask. Music production is like any other
skill that has taken years to learn and involves time,
effort and application of skills to produce a soundtrack
that will enhance your visuals.
Whilst I appreciate that student films often involve
scraping together resources, if you expect to be taken
seriously by producers, you'll also be expected to prove
you can budget for your participants, no matter how
small. Credit and copy isn't payment - it should be
mandatory for all your employees. Like
this
guy says.
If I can provide what you're looking for, rest assured
I will spend time and effort making sure it's right
for the job. I realise that unless you are Steven Spielberg,
budgets may be low, but if you approach me with an honest
budget for a job, I will give you a realistic response.

| What
instruments are available? |
My studio
setup and skills allow me to compose and record music
incorporating any of the following instrumentation:
Guitar/Bass: (acoustic/electric/upright etc.)
Piano/Keyboards: (Steinway, Hammond, Rhodes)
Drums/Percussion: (traditional acoustic and electronic)
Orchestral: (e.g. strings/brass/wind/percussion
etc.)
Synthesizer: don't let the connotations of bad
80's music put you off - synths can provide a wealth of
sounds from minimalist blips and beeps to full evolving
atmospheric soundscapes.
Although the vast majority of my work is instrumental,
I do work with vocalists occasionally and may be able
to provide vocal tracks depending on what you are looking
for.

|
| How
long will it take? |
That depends
on what's needed. I have written and recorded scores for
full length feature film soundtracks in 7 days before
but that's obviously not an ideal situation. The earlier
I'm involved in production, the more time I can dedicate
to getting the music exactly right for your film or production.

| I'm
in LA and you're in the South of England - How's that
going to work? |
For projects
where I'm not able to meet face to face, I keep in constant
contact via email (or telephone if you prefer). I respond
quickly to questions and comments and keep you in touch
as to the progress of a project.
I'm able to post constant updates to a secure on my website
(with your own unique login/password) within minutes of
working on a track if you want to hear the progress of
a project. This allows for practically instantaneous feedback
from both parties.
When a project reaches its conclusion, I can provide the
finished audio in a number of formats, depending on what
you want. The most common requests are for CD or DVD via
registered mail/courier or highest quality encoded mp3
via the internet (I have provided finished audio for broadcast
TV via this method which is virtually indistinguishable
from broadcast wav files).

| Are
your tracks copyright free for me to use in broadcast? |
No. Unless
otherwise stated, all content and copyright on this website
is held by the composer (Simon Wilkinson). Tracks bought
from the shop are for personal listening only and may
not be copied or distributed in any format without prior
licensing agreement.
Music tracks and audio content on this website may not
be copied, distributed, sold, used in any commercial or
non-commercial production, published or transmitted under
any circumstances without prior license agreement and
written permission.
Licensing costs to use my music are not necessarily expensive
depending on the use of music (e.g. territory, length
of music etc.)
Contact me for specific details and pricing. As a
registered member of the PRS/MCPS licensing and collection
agency, any breach or infringement of these terms will
be legally pursued.

| Can
you give me some advice on how to be a composer/get work/contacts? |
I seem to
get lots of emails from other composers asking for advice,
contacts, requests for me to listen to their music etc.
(I even get emails from people asking me to consider their
tracks for movies - please note, if you actually look
at this site, it should be fairly obvious I'm not
a music supervisor.)
At first, I used to answer and try and offer help which
can be a pretty time consuming process. Yet in every single
instance, not one person has bothered to even email back
a simple "Thanks". So I'm afraid any requests
like this will now go straight in the trash. Don't take
it personally.
